What Our Athletes Say

Kate Marston – Team NLC
“I wasn’t into exercise as a child and only started running at 28. I was in the classic cycle of run too far too soon and getting injured repeatedly, but for some reason kept going with it until I had my child. I really missed not being able to run and so after having a Mummy MOT, I decided to be sensible and start back by doing the couch to 5k. Whilst doing this I was listening to a running podcast and came across Lewis. I started following him on Instagram, and having decided I would do a marathon, I thought I could benefit from having some coaching so got in contact. This was the best decision. I was assigned Kirsty as my coach – which was great as she had had a child just before me so I really felt like she understood everything I was going through. The thing I have found however is even though you are assigned a coach who works through your timetable with you and is responsible for your training with you, you actually become part of this family where you interact with the other coaches and they massively support you too, as well as the chance to feel like part of a team with the other runners. Despite being running coaches, my training has never been so varied – I currently cycle, stretch, do a glutes and abs class, circuits class as well as specific strength exercises for old injuries I have. I love not having to think about what I need to do training wise – Kirsty and I discuss my goals and then it is all set out for me – if by chance something comes up be it illness, injury, lockdowns, Kirsty is on it straight away and things are adjusted accordingly. I actually don’t know how I would have got through all the changes and lockdowns of 2020 / 2021 without being part of this team – the structure and focus helped so much. Before I started with these guys, I never called myself a runner or an athlete, but they have really boosted my confidence. I have got PB’s since working with them and Kirsty, Gemma and Lewis have celebrated each one with me as if I had won championships. That is the positivity the bring to what they do and it is infectious.”
